Periwinkle Rose / Big Dipper Wax Works

Groupon has to be one of the greatest ideas ever created. One evening about a week ago I got an email from Groupon about a company called Periwinkle Rose. Periwinkle Rose is a business that makes pajama pants and play wear for children. They also sell candles from Big Dipper Wax Works.

My two favorite colors!

Big Dipper Wax Works sells beeswax candles. I've never tried beeswax candles before so I was intrigued to see what they were like.
One of the candles I purchased is a 1.9 ounce tin of Lavender Rosemary Mint. I'm not normally a huge lavender fan, but the mix with mint was intriguing. Smelling it cold, you can definitely tell  it's a lavender type. But it's bright and cheerful, definitely not a bedtime fragrance at all.

Next up is a 3 ounce votive in printed glass. I liked the idea of these so much  I would have bought more, but the others scents were sold out. This one is Rapture, which is a combination of patchouli and cassia. Patchouli has always struck me as a masculine fragrance, but this one is vibrant and lively and not heavy like I would have thought. I'm not familiar with cassia but it certainly makes for a good combination with the patchoui.


I got 4 aromatherapy tins in different scents. Going clockwise the purple one is Harmony with Lavender and Geranium, described as "Lavender-Geranium blend promotes balance and relaxation. It helps relieve insomnia and migraines. "(it is much more of a traditional lavender that you would expect compared to Rapture)

The Green is Meditation,"Rosewood-Cedarwood blend creates a calming awareness. It stimulates circulation and relieves congestion." (so far my favorite of the aromatherapy line)

Orange is Radiance "Ylang Ylang-Tangerine is a warm, delightful blend that inspires well-being and wisdom. " (A warm citrus)

Last but not least the pink is Sensuality. "Palmarosa-Rose is an eloquent aphrodisiac that stimulates passion. It alleviates nervousness and exhaustion. " (Very bright and very sweet)

Just for curiosities sake I got a traditional beeswax candle. It is described as "Enjoy the natural, sweet, honey fragrance infused straight from the hive into the wax!" I haven't noticed much of a scent off of it yet, but  that's because I'm impatient and haven't gotten a full wax pool. What I have smelled from it is sweet, and slightly tangy. I hear what flowers the bees had access to greatly influences what the wax and scent is like. I'm curious as to what these bees eat!
Also, I love how the shape of the container looks like a little beehive. It adds a little interest to what otherwise would be a boring little glass. 

And although I only bought candles this time, Periwinkle Rose was nice enough to give me a little post it pad with their logo and website on it. The Big Dipper Matchbook was also a nice touch.
Since they just came in, I can't review about how well the throw or burn, so that will come as an update in a couple days. I've heard mixed things about beeswax so I'm curious as to what my experience will be, but as soon as I know, you will. So stay tuned! :)

Tonight in my warmer; Angel Wings!

Continuing in the Fresh scent tradition, today's scent is Angel Wings! Angel Wings comes from Kim's Tarts.
She sells her tarts 3 to a bag for $1.50, which makes it a great price for great quality tarts.
Kim's Tarts has as special place in my heart because she is the very first vendor I tried. Her tarts are the reason I fell in love with wax. :)

The description for Angel Wings reads "A wonderful aroma embracing the softness of a new born baby and the creaminess of vanilla custard."

Angel Wings smells the same cold as it does melted.  Its fresh, its clean its....baby powder! When I read that there was vanilla custard in the description I thought this scent would be sweeter and creamier, but all i get  is baby powder. Not that there is anything wrong with that! Baby powder is a nice clean smell that makes you think of cuddly little ones. As a personal preference, baby powder scents are a little too strong and overwhelm me. That's why I was eager to try once combined with vanilla.
I think some point soon I'm going to melt Angel Wings and Baby Powder side by side to see if I can tell the difference. Or, another great idea, combine an Angel Wings tart with a Vanilla tart in my electric warmer and see what I get. :)

Overall Angel Wings is a great clean baby fresh type scent. (I can't really smell anything else off of it, but that may just be my nose.) If you love baby powder you'll love Angel Wings!

Tonight in my warmer; Sugar Plum Fairy!

Feeling pretty Crabby again! I loved the tester box I got from Crabby Candle Co. so much I couldn't wait to melt another scent. Today's choice, Sugar Plum Fairy!
Sugar Plum Fairy was one of the smaller sampler sized scents in this month box. Which is great because my new burner is pretty small. (Hooray for my new burner...I LOVE owls!) Scents that are sweet and have ambiguous names are usually my favorites, so this tart is right up my alley!
I don't have a scent description for this one, so I don't know exactly whats in it. So I'll rely on my nose and see how close I get.  :)
I say it all the time, but I love the color of this wax! While its cold is a nice soft blue, but melted in my warmer its a rich darker color.
Sugar Plum Fairy smells sweet (of course it would with Sugar right in the name!) It either has Pink Sugar in it, or has some sort of that cotton candy-ish note. It reminds me slightly of a chewy candy. Like a jelly belly or a taffy.
I can't tell if it's my nose, or my subconscious talking, but there is a very faint fruity note. My first guess would be plum because plum is in the name. But it could also possibly be apple or a berry of some kind?

Overall, Sugar Plum Fairy is a sweet cuddly type scent. It's not overwhelming or harsh in any way, and would be a great choice for a relaxing bubble bath, or right before bed.
I can't say its my favorite out of all the scents in the sampler box since it's only the second one I've tried so far. (I still have 7 more to go) But I can tell it's going to be really high up there, because I like it a lot.
If Crabby has any tester boxes left, you should check them out. It's a great price and they really have some top notch scents in there. :)

Bath and Bodyworks Haul 08/06/11!

I was going to try to hold out on the Fall and Halloween scents for a little while. Something about these products coming out the beginning of August bothers me a little. We're still halfway through summer! I suppose they start all the seasons early, but I'm not quite ready for summer to be over yet.
That being said, I was so excited to try these!
I love owls so much I couldn't wait to get my hands on the ceramic owl warmer. I kinda wish it had a little bit of color, but white is classic and goes with everything. :) It has really cute cut outs of the feathers and eyes that glow beautifully when a tea light is inside.

Twilight Woods shimmer, owl warmer, I <3 Geeks Pocketbac

I also bought the mini Twilight Woods shimmer mist. I've always wanted to try one, but unwilling to shell out the $14 for a full sized one (Plus I don't think I could ever finish it!)
The packaging on this product is beautiful! The look of the tree and the colors of the bottle really go well together. Plus the little shimmer bits up and down the trunk are a nice touch.

I only got 1 of the new pocketbacs. I have a ton of pocketbacs right now I didn't need anymore. But this one says I <3 Geeks! and its vanilla so I couldn't resist.

I love Slatkin & Co. mini candles. I usually pull out the wicks and put them in my electric tart warmer.  At 1.6 oz a piece and 3 for $5 it's not a bad deal.







I purchased 4 different scents, Cranberry Woods, Acorn and Fig, Woodland Berry, and Autumn. I can't tell which my favorite is yet, but its a toss up between Autumn or Acorn and Fig.

 Last but certainly not least, the Halloween edition scents! The only one I did not purchase was the Scream-a-Colada. I'm so tired of coconut, I am boycotting all coconut scents. Even though I am not really a fan of coconut to begin with, I think B&BW went a little overboard with it this year.

I  scooped up the other five though! Wicked Spiced Pumpkin, Sinful Vanilla, Plum Potions, Spider Cider, and Black Candy Apple.
I like the packaging for these, and its kind of interesting to have lotions in solid colored bottles instead of the clear ones B&BW usually carries.

My First Crabby Candle Co Box / Tonight in my warmer; Falling Leaves!

August Tester Package!

I've been wanting to try Crabby Candle Co. for a while now. Part of my excitement is that Crabby sells tester scents.
This is the first vendor that I have seen do a tester box each month. And it's a great deal! For 10 dollars a month you get 5 (2 ounce) tart cups and 4 sample sized wax cubes, and it even includes shipping!
I signed up to be a six month tester for 50 dollars. That comes out to 8.33 dollars for 14 oz. of yummy smellies each month! You don't get to choose the scent, but its such a wide array there is always something for someone, and even so, the whole point is to try something new.
Crabby Candle is even doing a special fall tester box.  20 bucks regular price, and a special price of 15 for testers. 10 (2 ounce) tarts and 5 sample sized cubes. Not a bad price for 25 ounces, especially considering that includes shipping.
The tester box for August is definitely a winner!

This scent needs a name!

It's got some Bakery type scents like Pink Sugared Cookie, Pumpkin Cornbread, and What the French, Toast? (Isn't that a hilarious name?!?). There are a some sweet scents like Gimme S'more!, Blue Sugar and Sugar Plum Fairy. Two rustic fall type scents called Weathered Crow and Falling Leaves, and one mystery scent! It's labeled Help Name Me! Isn't that cute?

I love the "nature"-ish type smells, so I chose to melt Falling Leaves first. Crabby Candles describes Falling Leaves as  "Crisp, clean fall air- captured in a tart! This fantastic clean scent is the epitome of leaves crunching underfoot and deep breaths of cool air."

I love the oranges, browns and reds of fallen leaves during the Autumn months. When I was young, I would rake the back yard, just to play, jump around, and scatter the leaves about.

I would categorize this as a rustic fresh scent. The fresh air notes are very prominent. But it smells old-fashioned, and a little bit like potpourri. You know those old country stores that sell antiques? This is what they smell like.
Falling Leaves brings warmth and comfort almost like a cinnamon, but without the cinnamon's sweet spice.
Falling Leaves is a good scent, I've never tried anything quite like it before. It has an impressive throw as my poor confused husband would attest to. He was in the kitchen and not sure what I was melting. Funny he can pick out the sweet scents, like Sugar Cookie and Creme De La Creme but fresh scents seem to throw him!
I hope Crabby will consider making it part of their Fall lineup. While I probably wouldn't melt this one in Spring, it is the epitome of Autumn.

It almost looks like I have coffee in my coffee cup warmer!

Tonight in my warmer; Sea Blossom!

Today's scent is a 1 ounce tart that came in the Fresh Sampler Pack from Can-Do-Candles. Sea Blossom is a beautiful name. It's also an appropriate one. The description on Can-Do's website is listed as "Sea Blossom - Fresh floral sea breeze"



This tart definitely  deserves its spot in the fresh category. Sea Blossom very similar to a laundry or febreze type scent.

The florals add depth and warmth which really makes it stand out in comparison with many other clean types. It's almost like a cashmere or fluffy towels with fresh breeze and flower top notes.
  It could also be compared to Lilac Linens although Sea Blossom is quite a bit more vibrant. The throw isn't as over powering as Fresh Linen, but still pretty strong.

Even if you aren't a floral fan, I would still recommend you give this one a try. I know I've been saying that a lot lately. But clean and floral types together are so amazing, and compliment each other so well.

It is a balancing act. Too much floral overwhelms many (if not most) tart lovers. Too much of a fresh/clean note can be headache inducing. But when the two come together in perfect harmony, its like smelly magic. I am convinced that fresh and florals were made for each other, like bacon and eggs. :)
If Sea Blossom was made into a laundry detergent I would wash all my clothes in it every day.

Tonight in my warmer; Creme De La Creme!

I'm feeling grumpy tonight, perfect for melting a Grumpy Girl tart! I loved her Let Them Eat Cake! tart so much I decided to melt something similar. Grumpy Girl packages her tarts in a 2 oz "Cranky Cup"

I like to cut mine in half, since the scent is so great you don't have to use the whole thing. Plus, melting only half makes it last longer. :)

Creme De La Creme is very similar to Let Them Eat Cake! The main distinction between the two is that the Creme De La Creme smells like just the icing, without the cake notes. Let Them Eat Cake! has a little but more depth, but Creme De La Creme is amazing all on it's own. It's buttery and sweet and has an amazing throw. My husband was in another room and asked what the caramel and vanilla smell was. It's not very often I get his seal of approval on my smellies, but when I do that says quite a bit about the scent.  :)

If you love super sweet creamy scents but not particularly in the mood for bakery, Creme De La Creme is an amazing choice. Thank you Grumpy Girl for another amazing tart!
